Field Hockey

The rules of women’s field hockey in India are governed by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) and are consistent with the international standards applied worldwide. Here are the key rules and regulations:

Game Structure

Teams: Each team consists of 11 players, including a goalkeeper.

Substitutes: Teams can have up to five substitutes, and rolling substitutions are allowed throughout the match.

Match Duration: A match is played over four quarters, each lasting 15 minutes. There is a 2-minute break between the first and second quarters, and the third and fourth quarters, with a 10-minute halftime break.

The Field

Dimensions: The field measures 91.4 meters in length and 55 meters in width.

Circles: The shooting circles, located at each end of the field, are semicircles with a radius of 14.63 meters.

Goals: Goals are 2.14 meters high and 3.66 meters wide.

Equipment

Ball: A standard field hockey ball is used.

Sticks: Players use curved sticks to play the ball. The stick cannot weigh more than 737 grams.
